Student Highlights of the GLPA Conference

Five planetarium assistants went to the Great Lakes Planetarium Association (GLPA) Conference in October. This year it was held at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. They were accompanied by Gregg Williams, the Planetarium Director, his wife Barbara, and Tom Dobes, the planetarium’s Technical Specialist.

It was a great learning experience and they all had a good time. Here are some comments from the students. Cayman Holley, 7th grade, said” I really like the conference, the nice people, the food, and the presentations. It was really awesome. In fact, I’m waiting for the next conference!” Taylor Scot, 8th grade, said “My favorite part of the GLPA conference was the vendor showcases because it was cool to see what other planetariums had for equipment.” Carly Sheets, 8th grade, said ”What I liked the best about the GLPA conference was the opportunity to meet all the other people who work in the planetarium business and learn about what they do.” Briana Thomas, 7th grade, said “I had a great time at the conference. I learned about a lot of vendors. Ball State has a beautiful planetarium. I have lots of souvenirs from the vendors. I won a door prize! I think other people should attend it is a great experience.” Anna Vinson, 8th grade, said “Everyone was welcoming. It was very interesting and it was also a great learning experience.”
