  • 1564 - German astronomer David Fabricius was born. Friend of Tycho Brahe and Johann Kepler. Noted for telescopic observations.
  • 1611 - Dutch astronomer Johannes Fabricius (son of David) noted sunspots and studied them with his father. Published work.
  • 1934 - Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was born. At age 27, became the first man in space.
