Merrillville Community Planetarium
Bringing the Universe to the Merrillville Schools and Northwest Indiana


The Merrillville Community Planetarium is part of the Merrillville Community School Corporation, a K-12 public school system in Northwest Indiana. The Planetarium is located in Clifford Pierce Middle School. We provide programming for Merrillville classes, outside groups, and the public.

  • 1829 - American astronomer Asaph Hall was born. Discovered and named the moons of Mars and calculated their orbits.
  • 1929 - German film "Frau im Mond" (Woman in the Moon) released. Rocket pioneer Hermann Oberth serves as an advisor on the film.
  • 2003 - First manned launch by China. Yang Liwei aboard the Shenzhou-5 spacecraft completes 14 orbits in 21 hour flight.
